The Belmont Bruins and Green Bay Phoenix take the floor at the Resch Center to open the NIT.
Green Bay dominated the Horizon in the regular season but fell short of an NCAA berth when they dropped the conference title game to Milwaukee. The Phoenix still had an outside shot for an At-Large berth but I some how believe the committee wasn't going to send two Horizon teams Dancing. The Phoenix were deserving with great balance as they outscored teams 75-64 and had the ability to win any number of ways although it was their defense I liked with only 39% shooting allowed. That will be the key versus Belmont and if this unit gets stops then Keifer Sykes (20 ppg) and Alec Brown (15.6 ppg) better score.

Belmont has been in the Ohio Valley for the last two years and won everything last year and appeared headed in that direction in 2013-14 after capturing the regular season title. However, Eastern Kentucky knocked them off in the postseason and the Bruins were quickly gobbled up by the NIT. One got the feeling this wasn't the same Belmont squad we grew accustomed to seeing as the offense that averaged 80 points was relied on more then the defense that allowed 74 points on 46% marksmanship. There were plenty of points scored at both ends of the floor when the Bruins stepped on the court and they will likely need them in the NIT from JJ Mann (18 ppg) and Craig Bradshhaw (15 ppg).
This should be a great game to watch with Green Bay's defense matching up with the Bruins potent attack. No line and I can't even guess who will be favored but I lean defense so far...
