The Old Dominion Monarchs host a first round CBI battle with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
You would have to say Old Dominion's move to the CUSA was a success with a 9-7 record and 6th place finish. The CUSA was bigger and much tougher then the Colonial where the Monarchs were always a threat. I got the feeling ODU never reached their potential in 2013-14 with new teams and more travel being part of the 'feeling out' process. The Monarchs were outscored 64-63 and didn't see 70 points often which was needed against some of the bigger offenses in the league. Looking at the CBI opener I feel the offense has to either reach the 70 point plateau or shutdown SDSU and Aaron Bacote (16 ppg) might need a huge night.

South Dakota finished in a second place tie with IPFW at 12-4 with North Dakota State winning the postseason and regular season titles. The Jackrabbits were booted from the Summit playoffs by IPFW 64-60 when their offense stalled which was a rare but fatal occurence when it happens. Having said that, that's one of the keys for this team going forward and that's a necessity for scoring points. The Jackrabbits win when they get the scoreboard in to the 70's and is especially important against Old Dominion who doesn't light it up offensively. Jordan Dykstra (16 ppg) and Brayden Carlson (15 ppg) give SDSU a nice one, two punch and if somebody else steps up this team will score.
As I said, South Dakota State wants to get the score in to the 70's and Old Dominion doesn't in what boils down to pace. I am not writing off the Monarchs, just taking the points...
