The Albany Great Danes battle the Florida Gators Thursday afternoon at 4:10 from Orlando in South region action.
Albany advanced to face the top seeded Gators after upending Mount Saint Mary’s in first four action Tuesday night. The Great Danes traded baskets with the Mount all game long before pulling away late for the 71-64 win. The Great Danes were led by the performance of point guard DJ Evans. Evans left it all on the floor in a must win contest, playing 40 minutes and leading all scorers with 22 points and 9 boards. Peter Hooley added 20 points as well and big man Sam Rowley ripped down 13 boards to help the Great Danes march on.

Florida took down the top seed in the big dance after winning the SEC tournament to cap a finish to the season that saw the Gators run off 26 straight contests, including multiple victories over quality ranked opponents. The Gators like to defend, are senior-laden and go deep into their bench with skilled athletes. Casey Prather leads the Gators scoring efforts with 14.2 points per game and Scottie Wilbekin is second in scoring at 13 points and is the Gators floor general, averaging 3.8 assists as well. Dorian Finney-Smith leads the team in rebounds at 6.8 per game and Patric Young is a load in the front court, averaging 11 points, 6 boards and a menacing defensive presence for Florida.
Albany should be proud after a big win Tuesday, but unfortunately they are coming up against a buzzsaw in Florida. I like the Gators to blow this thing open out of the gate with furious defense and hot shooting from the perimeter. Look for Prather to score in double figures and a big game from Patric Young, a mismatch down low as the Gators roll to the cover and a trip to Saturday action.
