The Wofford Terriers and Michigan Wolverines will meet Thursday in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines received an at-large bid, while the Terriers won the Southern Conference tournament.
The Terriers have been force defensively all season, holding teams to 62.4 points on 44.2 percent shooting. Wofford has allowed just one 70-point performance in its last 15 contests. Offensively, Wofford averages just 67.7 points on 45.1 percent shooting. Junior guard Karl Cochran leads the Terriers with 15.7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Terriers shoot just 66.3 percent from the free throw line and 37.1 percent from beyond the arc. Against the spread, Wofford is 15-9-1 overall.

The Wolverines head into the tournament with some serious confidence after winning seven of their last eight games. Michigan is getting it done on both sides of the ball, averaging 74.4 points on 47.6 percent shooting and allowing 65.4 points on 44.5 percent shooting. The Wolverines have three players averaging at least 13.2 points, but sophomore guard Nick Stauskas leads Michigan with 17.5 points, and he’s made at least three threes in his last two games. Michigan also shoots a cool 75.7 percent from the free throw line as a team. Against the spread, the Wolverines are 16-14-1 overall.
The spread on this game is absolutely insane. While Wofford doesn’t score a ton of points, the Terriers do play great defense and only lost to the Saint Louis Billikens by 14 points back in December. The Wolverines haven’t been blowing teams out, as six of the last eight Wolverines’ games were decided by single digits. Granted, those games were against tougher competition, but Wofford can keep the score respectable if the Terriers defense shows up.
I expect Wofford to slow the game down just enough to keep this game under the projected number. Michigan still wins, but this game is closer than you expect.
