American got their tourney berth via winning the Patriot division. The Eagles made easy work of favorite Boston University in the title game and enter post season play at 20-12 overall. The Eagles are led by Jesse Reed (13.9 ppg) and Tony Wroblicky mans the post with just over seven boards and two blocks per game. The Eagles play very good team defense and will be tested by the balanced attack and strong shooting of the Badgers.
Wisconsin locks up a two seed despite losses in two of their last three contests. The Badgers fell to Michigan State in the conference semifinals but are built for a deep run with a veteran squad that features size and sharpshooters. Wisconsin is 26-7 overall and are led by post man Frank Kaminsky. The junior forward finished the year leading the badgers in points (13.6 ppg) and boards (6.4) and should prove to be a very difficult guard for the Eagles. Ben Brust and Gasser will command attention as well as they both are elite shooters who do not need much room to do damage.
American has had some of their best defensive efforts against quality opponents and while I think the Eagles are good enough to hang around for a half, the Badgers are far too deep and sound to be slowed down for 40 minutes. A big second half run by Wiscy will be the difference here as the badgers pull away late for the cover and move on to the round of 32. Look for a double double from Kaminsky in this one as well.
