The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet in West Region action at 4:40PM Friday on TNT.
Oklahoma State has endured quite the roller coaster ride this season as they started off in the top 10, saw themselves lose seven straight during conference play before rebounding and defeating Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech down the stretch to rally to the dance. The Cowboys are led by dynamic guard Marcus Smart -- Smart averages 17.8 points per game and 5.7 assists and is one of the few players in college basketball capable of putting his team on his back. Lately, the Cowboys have gotten great production from senior guard Markel Brown who averages 17.3 points per game but has averaged just a hair over 20 in the cowboys last 5 games. These two guards will be vital to the Cowboys hopes to make noise this post season.

Gonzaga put together another very solid season. The Bulldogs were solid all year long and took down the conference tournament over St. Mary’s a little over a week ago. The Bulldogs are 28-6 on the year and winners of 5 straight. They are led in scoring by Sam Dower -- the big man also anchors the post, averaging 7.1 boards per game. Kevin Pangos does it all for the Zags as well - the swingman averages 14 points per game and just under 4 boards and 4 assists as well. David Stockton leads an offense that ranks 5th in the nation in field goal percentage and averages 4.7 assists per game on the year.
This game should be close throughout as both of these teams are very talented and could easily have been higher seeds in this tournament. When two teams are so solid on paper, I have to go with the team who has the superstar and that is the Oklahoma State Cowboys. I expect a close contest throughout but the play of Marcus Smart to be the difference as he wills Okie State to the win and on to the round of 32 with the cover.
