The Dayton Flyers and the Syracuse Orange face off on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a spot in the Sweet 16 going to the winner.
The Dayton Flyers opened this year’s tournament in style knocking off geographical rival Ohio State in a thriller. The win was Dayton’s 11th in their last 13 games and was a statement against a team that they felt had ducked them for years. Dyshawn Pierre led the Flyers on Thursday pouring in 12 points. Devin Oliver had 11 points, Vee Sanford had 10 points, and Jordan Sibert and Matt Kavanaugh each had nine points. Dayton shot 44.9 percent from the floor shooting 52.7 percent on their two-points shots and 23.1 percent beyond the three-point arc. Dayton also hit 76.5 percent of their free throws, a number they will need to improve on. Dayton is hoping to earn the A-10 even more respect with a win here.
The Syracuse Orange struggled going into the post season but they put it all together on Thursday pasting Western Michigan by 22. Syracuse is 4-1 in neutral site games and 14-1 in non-conference games. Trevor Cooney led the Orange scoring 18 points. Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis each scored 16 points and C.J. Fair scored14 points. Syracuse shot 49.1 percent from the floor shooting 52.5 percent with their two-point shots and 41.2 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Syracuse also shot 82.4 percent from the free throw line. Syracuse was number one at one point this season and they are hoping for a magical run.
Dayton is 5-1 against the spread in their last six neutral site games, 4-1 against the spread against the ACC, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Syracuse is 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, 3-14 against the spread against the A-10, and 0-4 against the spread following a win.
My free pick is on the total and I like over 127.5. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
