The Mercer Bears look for another upset when they tangle with the Tennessee Volunteers in a Field of 32 battle.
Mercer pulled off one of this year's shockers when they knocked off #2 seed Duke 78-71 in the first round Friday. This wasn't supposed to be close with the Blue Devils penciled in as 13 point favorites but it was the Bears who played a complete game at both ends of the floor with 55.6% marksmanship and a 23-12 edge at the stripe outdistancing Duke's 35.5% accuracy and 15-37 effort from distance while rendering their 17 more looks null and void. Jakob Gollon led five DD scorers with 20 points and five yanks with Daniel Coursey next in line with 17 points. Anthony White Jr. tossed in 13 while Langston Hall and Ike Nwamu added eleven points each.

Tennessee really poured it on Massachsetts in an opening round 86-67 rout that was over from a competitive stand point after 20 minutes with the Volunteers comfortably in front by 19. Tennessee fired away at 53.6% thanks to an ample number of dunks and layups while limiting the Minutemen to just 42% accuracy. The Vols also turned 21 UMass in to a significant source of offense with 24-8 advantage at the charity stripe. Jarnell Stokes was dominant with 26 points and 14 rebounds followed by a 21 point performance from Jordan McRae. Josh Richardson netted another 15 points while Jeronne Maymon tossed in eleven points and snagged eleven boards.
The line makes this a tough one with both teams turning in two of the best performances of the tournament thus far. However I think both teams will score and I like the over here...
