The Dayton Flyers play the Stanford Cardinal in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament on Thursday.

The Dayton Flyers defeated Syracuse 55-53 in the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament to earn a spot in the Sweet 16 on Thursday. The Flyers upset Ohio State in the 2nd round of the tournament and they have now won twelve out of their last fourteen games overall. On the season, Jordan Sibert leads the Flyers in scoring with 12.5 points per game, while Devin Oliver is a close second with 12.1 points per contest. Oliver also averages a team-high 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Dayton is averaging 73.4 points per game while shooting 46.6% from the field as a team this year. Defensively, the Flyers are allowing only 67 points per game this season, while holding Ohio State to 59 points and Syracuse to 53 last weekend. Dayton Flyers vs. Stanford Cardinal Pick-Odds-Prediction 3/27/14

The Stanford Cardinal defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 60-57 in the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament. The Cardinal beat New Mexico in the 2nd round of the tournament and they have now won five out of their last six games overall. On the season, Chasson Randle is averaging 18.7 points per game to lead the Cardinal in scoring. Dwight Powell is averaging a second-best 13.9 points per game while averaging a team-high 3.1 assists for Stanford. Josh Huestis is averaging 11.1 points per game and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per contest. Stanford is scoring 73.5 points per game while shooting 46.4% from the field as a team this season. Stanford is a decent rebounding team and they hold their opponents to an average of 67.9 points per game. The Stanford Cardinal lost by 25 to UCLA in the conference tournament, but they have played well in the first two games of the tournament.

This game should be a low-scoring defensive battle as these two teams matchup pretty well. I think the outcome of the game will be decided on the glass and at the free-throw line. The way the referees have been calling fouls in this tournament, I think both teams will have plenty of opportunities from the charity stripe. Dayton seems like a team of destiny and they have some solid talent across the board. Stanford has been inconsistent all year and I could see this being one of those bad games. I’m going to back the Flyers with the points and I wouldn’t be surprised if they won outright.
