The Towson Tigers and Murray State Racers will meet Thursday in a CIT quarterfinal matchup.
Towson has made it this far in the tournament by beating USC Upstate and East Tennessee State. On the season, Towson averages 73.1 points on 45.3 percent shooting and allows 68.3 points on 40.3 percent shooting. Towson is a balanced team that averages 38.9 rebounds and shoots 35.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers have four players averaging at least 10.6 points per game, but none are as important as Jarrelle Benimon, who averages 18.7 points and 11.3 rebounds. Benimon, who is a senior, has only failed to score in the double figures just three times all year for Towson. The Towson Tigers are 17-10 ATS overall this season.

Murray State has defeated Missouri State and Nebraska-Omaha to get to this point in the NIT. On the season, Murray State averages 77.4 points on 47.3 percent shooting and allows 72.3 points on 45.2 percent shooting. The Racers are a heavily offensive team, shooting 37.3 percent from downtown and having four players averaging at least 13.5 points per game. Guard Cameron Payne leads Murray State with an average of 16.2 points per game. While the Racers defense could be better, Murray State has scored 80-plus points in seven of its last 11 games. The Murray State Racers are 17-10-1 ATS overall this season.
The Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The Racers are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
This is a game that could go either way and while Murray State will be playing on its home court, I have to take Towson and the points. The Tigers are the more balanced team in this matchup and could actually beat Murray State SU. The Racers rely way too much on the offensive side of the ball for my taste.
I’ll take the overall better team in Towson and the points.
