The Wisconsin Badgers and the Arizona Wildcats face off on Saturday in Anaheim in a NCAA Tournament Elite Eight matchup with the winner going to the Final Four.
The Wisconsin Badgers finished the regular season tied for second place in the Big Ten but because of their third ranked strength of schedule they earned a two seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Wisconsin started their 2014 tournament blasting American by 40 points and followed that up by coming from behind to beat Oregon by eight and then a convincing win over Baylor by 17 points in the Sweet 16. Frank Kaminsky leads the Badgers averaging 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Ben Brust is averaging 13 points, Sam Dekker is averaging 12.5points, and Traevon Jackson is averaging 10.7 points. Wisconsin is averaging 73.8 points and they are shooting 46.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.8 points and their opponents are shooting 42.8 percent. Wisconsin has big wins this season over two of the other one seeds remaining in March Madness, Virginia and Florida.
The Arizona Wildcats didn’t play their best basketball on Thursday but what they did do was good enough taking down San Diego State 70-64. Arizona opened the tournament with a win over Weber State and then followed it up with a convincing 13-point win over Gonzaga. Nick Johnson leads the Wildcats averaging 16.3 points per game. Aaron Gordon is averaging 12.5 points and 7.7 rebounds, Kaleb Tarczewski is averaging 9.9 points and 6.3 rebounds, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is averaging 9.1 points and 5.7 rebounds. Arizona is averaging 73.1 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.4 points and their opponents are shooting 38 percent. Arizona was number one for a good portion of the season and they look to be focused in on ending the season at number one.
Wisconsin is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games, 6-0 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Arizona is 4-0 against the spread against the Big Ten, 7-2 against the spread in their last nine NCAA Tournament games, and 20-8 against the spread in their last 28 non-conference games.
Both of these teams are comfortable in a low scoring deliberate pace so look for it to go that way making the under my play with my free pick.
My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
