The Cal State Fullerton Titans and Santa Clara Broncos play Friday night at the Leavey Center.
The Cal State Fullerton Titans finished with 11 wins last season and it was mainly due to an offense that couldn’t get going. Despite losing its top scorer in Michael Williams, Cal State Fullerton does return senior guard Alex Harris, who averaged 15.6 points and 2.4 assists last season. Harris will be the go-to guy within the Titans offense, and he’ll have help from former DePaul forward Moses Morgan. Morgan played two seasons for DePaul and is capable of stretching the floor and knocking down some three balls, which should help Cal State Fullerton’s offense overall. While the offense has some potential in those two players, the Cal State Fullerton Titans could improve their defense as well that allowed 71.5 points per game. Not much is expected from this team but with a second season under head coach Dedrique Taylor, the Titans should be more competitive.

The Santa Clara Broncos finished just 6-12 in conference play last season and have to improve their numbers on the glass if they hope to turn things around. The good news for Santa Clara is that Jared Brownridge and Brandon Clark form one of the better backcourts in the WCC, as they averaged more than 34 points combined and are capable of carrying the Broncos a great deal. Brownridge was nearly flawless as a freshman, shooting 43.6 percent from three and turning the ball over just 1.5 times in 33.5 minutes. The downfall for the Santa Clara Broncos is their lack of size as they finished ranked 300th in the league in rebounding and don’t have many big bodies to change those numbers. This must be a breakout season for Yannick Atanga if Santa Clara is going to surprise folks.
The Titans are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 vs. West Coast and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 road games. The Broncos are 11-29 ATS in their last 40 home games and 5-18 ATS in their last 23 vs. Big West.
Santa Clara should win this game by double digits with its one-two scoring punch that's going to give defenses fits all season long. The Titans have some pieces in place but I'm not sure they're ready to hang with a big boy team just yet, especially this early in the season.
