The OVC and Horizon collide when the Belmont Bruins and Wright State Raiders open the season.
The Belmont Bruins have become the face of the Ohio Valley as they have won the conference crown in their only two seasons in the league. The experts have the Bruins penciled in as the team to beat once again in 2014-15 despite the loss of OVC Player of the Year JJ Mann who could put up points in a hurry. Belmont once again has plenty of talent and in my view it will show up in a very experienced backcout with Chip Bradshaw averaging just under 16 points but able to do a bit of everything. Partner in crime Reece Chamberlain contributed eleven points and was a great ball distridutor. Evan Bradd looks like the go to guy in the paint with the team looking to push the ball and score similar to a year ago.

The Wright State Raiders dropped the Horizon League championship to Milwaukee last season but the betting money says their appearance in the championship isn't a likely scenario. The Raiders simply lost a ton of experience and production with the four top players scorers graduating. The team will rely heavily on Reggie Arceneaux who averaged seven points who will need JT Yoho brings eight points to the table as several players averaged around five points or so which means the team won't be involved in many shootouts and if they do their will be trouble. An interesting player to watch will be Grant Evans who averaged over 25 minutes as a senior in high school as he and several recruits might be forced in to action by HC Billy Donlon so we really have little idea what the season holds for the Raiders.
Belmont are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and Wright State are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 vs. Ohio Valley. There aren't many trends to lean on in this match up with the only trends saying both teams are dominant versus the opposing conferences. My take on this is Wright State has lost a good share of their talent while the Bruins plenty of ammunition.. What confuses me is Belmont is a small dog because on paper they should be favored...
