The Cal State Fullerton Titans and New Mexico Lobos meet Sunday night at The Pit.
The Cal State Fullerton Titans lost their season opener to the Santa Clara Broncos, a game in which they simply couldn’t get stops. Cal State Fullerton allowed the Broncos to shoot 49.1 percent from the field and 68.8 percent from three. Needless to say, no matter how good the Titans shoot the ball this season, they aren’t going to win games playing defense that way. The good news for the Cal State Fullerton Titans is that Moses Morgan and Alex Harris combined for 28 points and six assists. Morgan and Harris are expected to carry most of the load offensively for the Titans. However, Joe Boyd and Lanerryl Johnson each scored in the double figures off the bench, giving CS Fullerton a much needed offensive boost. Time will only tell if the Titans can keep it up offensively, but it won’t matter if the defense refuses to show up.

The New Mexico Lobos didn’t miss a beat in their 79-55 win over the Idaho State Bengals. Despite losing a ton of talent during the offseason, New Mexico held Idaho State to 33.9 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers. Many were concerned where the Lobos offense was going to come from, but they shot a cool 44.1 percent from the field and grabbed 44 rebounds. Cullen Neal led the way with 26 points and four assists, while Deshawn Delaney had 12 points and seven rebounds. Neal has never been shy shooting the basketball and will have to continue being New Mexico’s spark plug on the offensive side. The concerns with New Mexico is the lack of depth, as there are a ton of new faces and young guys being asked to contribute.
The Titans are 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Lobos are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games and 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
You'll find out soon enough that I don't like teams that show the inability to play even a little bit of defense. New Mexico is the more balanced team here and has been kind to us in the past ATS. Take the Lobos to get the blowout win.
