The Bucknell Bison and Michigan Wolverines play Monday at the Crisler Center.
The Bucknell Bison did a solid job of beating the Marist Red Foxes in their season opener, 75-72. Bucknell is a team in transition after losing its top three players and is still trying to find itself on the offensive end. In the win, the Bison shot 41.7 percent from the field and made seven threes. Dom Hoffman led Bucknell with 14 points and nine rebounds, while John Azzinaro scored 13 points off the bench. Cory Starkey is also bound to see more playing time if he can continue to average five rebounds and six assists in 11 minutes, as his performance was key in the win. What’s most impressive about the win is that Bucknell’s top shooter in Chris Hass was just 2-10 from the field. Defensively, Bucknell allowed 42.1 percent shooting and forced seven turnovers. This is a measuring stick game for the Bucknell Bison, a middle of the road Patriot team.

The Michigan Wolverines crushed the Hillsdale Chargers with ease in their season opener by winning 92-68. Michigan shot 51.7 percent from the field and only turned the ball over six times. However, the Wolverines have things to work on as they allowed a far less talented Hillsdale team shoot 46.6 percent from the field and make 10 threes. It’s going to take some time before Michigan reaches its full potential after losing so much talent during the offseason. Caris LeVert is the new leader of the team and he was 7-12 from the field with nine assists, while Derrick Walton Jr. scored 22 points and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman Kameron Chatman saw a healthy 30 minutes and will only become one of the Wolverines key players as he matures. Ricky Doyle is questionable for this game with an ankle injury.
The Bison are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Wolverines are 3-1-2 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a S.U. win.
This early in the season, the Michigan Wolverines are still feeling themselves out and learning to play together. The Bucknell Bison are in the same spot after losing a lot of key guys. However, this just feels like too many points to pass up with a Bucknell team that will compete in the Patriot League.
