The LSU Tigers are off to a 1-0 start with a win over Gardener-Webb on Saturday. LSU started slow and trailed at the half but came together in the second half winning by 11. Jarrell Martin scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds leading LSU n the win and Jordan Mickey had 21 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Josh Gray had 18 points and six rebounds and Keith Hornsby had 17 points and seven rebounds. LSU hit 52.2 percent f their shots from the floor including 34.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc and hey missed just one free throw hitting 13 of 14 from the line. LSU crushed Gardner-Webb on the boards 44-24 and that was the difference maker.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders opened the season with a win knocking off Loyola Maryland by 12 points. Texas Tech led by just two at the half against the Greyhounds but extended the lead by 10 more points in the second half. Norense Odiase had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Red Raiders. Devaugntah Williams had 13 points and Keenan Evans and Toddrick Gotcher each had 10 points. Texas Tech shot just 39.7 percent from the floor including 38.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 64.3 percent from the free throw line. Texas Tech lost the battle of the boards 21-24.
LSU is 4-0 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, 2-7 against the spread in their last nine non-SEC games, and 0-5 against the spread against the Big 12. Texas Tech is 5-1 against the spread against the SEC, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games.
LSU is a big favorite here and while it may be more of a byproduct of Texas Tech’s performances in recent years than anything LSU has done the play here is to lay the points.
