The Utah Utes and San Diego State Aztecs meet Tuesday afternoon at the Viejas Arena.
The Utah Utes won their season opener by beating up Ball State, 90-72. In the win, Utah shot an insane 59.2 percent from the field and scored 55 points in the second half, while the defense held Ball State to 45.5 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers. Jordan Loveridge and Jakob Poeltl combined for 36 points and 12 rebounds, while Brandon Taylor had 19 points and three steals. Kenneth Ogbe scored nine points off the bench and Delon Wright had 13 points and eight assists. The Utah Utes are one of the favorites to win the Pac-12 and have one of the better offenses you’re going to see in the entire country. This game will be a great test to see just where this Utah team is at early in the season and just how effective they can be against a great defense.

The San Diego State Aztecs beat up the CS Northridge Matadors in their season opener, 79-58. The Aztecs defense held the Matadors to 41.4 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers, while the offense shot 50 percent from the field and made six threes. Aqeel Quinn led the way with 15 points off the bench, and J.J. O'Brien scored 13 points and had seven rebounds. Dwayne Polee II picked up where he left off last season with 11 points and four boards, while Winston Shepard led the starters with 14 points. San Diego State remains the cream of the crop in the MWC and will continue to play elite level defense to win its games. However, with no Xavier Thames on the roster, the Aztecs major question continues to be on the offensive side. San Diego State will have to score some points to survive this contest.
The Utes are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 non-conference games and 46-20-2 ATS in their last 68 games overall. The Aztecs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Utes are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
This is going to be a great matchup between Utah's explosive offense and SDSU's great defense. In these type of games, I usually side with the defensive team. Should be close, but Aztecs will pull away late.
