The Ohio Bobcats travel to Alico Arena to take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles this Wednesday Night.
The Ohio Bobcats opened up the season with a crushing 73-47 victory over Appalachian State this past Saturday. The Bobcats got it down at both ends of the court as they shot a smooth 47.3% from the field while also playing some tough defensive holding Appalachian State to 32.7% from field on 18-55 shooting. The Bobcats were led by Ryan Taylor who had 21 points (9-13 shooting) and preseason All-Mac forward Maurice Daly Ndour who had 12 pts, 12 reb, and 2 blk. Ohio was able to notch 25 wins last year, but just couldn’t get a few keys wins to better position themselves in their conference tournament. The Bobcats are coached by Saul Phillips, who takes over the head-coaching duties at Ohio after leading North Dakota State to upset win over Oklahoma in the NCAA tournment last year. Although Coach Phillips lost Ohio's leading scorer in Nick Kellogg last year, he still has a solid team that should be at least near the top of the MAC by end of the year.

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, who most remember from their remarkable run at the 2013 NCAA tournament, have started out the new season 2-0 with an 81-75 overtime victory over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos this past Sunday night. The Eagles looked poised to make another run at the NCAA tournment this year as there are the clear-cut favorites in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Florida Gulf Coast have arguably the two best players in all the Atlantic Sun Conference in Brett Comer and Bernard Thompson. In their recent win over UC Santa Barbara, Brett Comer had a monster game scoring 28 points (11-14 shooting) and dishing out 7 assist while Bernard Thompson was able to chip in with 13 points and 7 reb. As both Comer and Thompson will be the focal point of many defensives this year, second-year head coach, Joe Dooley will be depending on both Jamail Jones (15.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg) and Marc-Eddy Norelia (15.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg) to provide a solid supporting cast for the Eagles. Although it’s early in the season, it will be important for Florida Gulf Coast to improve from the free-throw line as the Eagles are barley shooting over 60%.
The Bobcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 23-10 ATS in their last 33 non-conference games. The Eagles are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games and 9-2 in their last 11 home games.
Both the Ohio Bobcats and the Florida Gulf-Coast Eagles are projected to be either at the top or near the top of their respected divisions. Currently, there is no line on the game so but I imagine that Florida Gulf Coast will be slightly favored being at home. If the line is pretty close, I think I would go with the home-team in the Eagles, but if the Bobcats are getting anything more than 4 points, I would go with Ohio.
