The defending National Champion Connecticut Huskies look to avoid the upset bid of the Charleston Cougars.
After opening the season with a 35 point victory over Furman, Charleston found the going tougher in an 80-67 defeat at the hands of Gardner-Webb. Gardner-Webb led by just one after 20 minutes before a 48 point second half explosion put this in the win column. Small differences in the boxscore added up to a DD win with the Bulldogs leading the shooting battle 43%-39% and sinking five more free throws. Joe Chealey paced the Cougars offense with 17 points with Anthony Stitt adding 12 points while Adjehi Baru and Donovan Gilmore chipped in with ten points apiece and a combined 23 rebounds. Charleston just couldn't control the starting five of the Bulldogs who scored all but four of their points.

The Connecticut Huskies opened defence of their National Championship with a 66-53 victory over visiting Bryant. Surprisingly the Bulldogs were up six points at the break before UConn went on a 38-19 run over the final 20 minutes. At the final buzzer the Huskies defense took control of this contest with Bryant held to 34% from the floor and owned a 37-24 advantage on the backboards. The Bulldogs simply had no answer for Ryan Boatright who poured in a game high 24 points with eight pulls and five assists. Boatright had plenty of help with Amida Brimah addind 12 points, five pulls and five blocks while Sam Cassell Jr. and Daniel Hamilton combined for 19 points with Hamilton grabbing seven rebounds. Kentan Facey hauled in a game high eleven rebounds as UConn dominated the paint.
