The Line: Indiana Hoosiers -1.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The SMU Mustangs and Indiana Hoosiers play Thursday night at the Assembly Hall.
The SMU Mustangs split their first two games with a win over Lamar and a loss to Gonzaga. On the season, SMU is averaging 74.5 points on 45.2 percent shooting and are allowing 63 points on 38.7 percent shooting. Ben Moore leads SMU with 16.5 points on 59.1 percent shooting and Yanick Moreira is scoring 11.5 points and grabbing six rebounds. Moreira has somewhat helped replace Marcus Kennedy’s production, who continues to deal with eligibility issues. Nic Moore leads the Mustangs with five assists, but he must be more aggressive offensively with his scoring if SMU is seriously going to compete for a conference title. The SMU Mustangs are a team to watch this season and will be eager to redeem themselves after a subpar performance against Gonzaga on Monday.
USA TODAY Sports
The Indiana Hoosiers have gotten off to a fast 2-0 start with wins over Mississippi Valley State and Texas Southern. Indiana is averaging 99.5 points on 61.7 percent shooting and are allowing 64.5 points on 38.2 percent shooting. James Blackmon Jr. leads the Hoosiers with 22 points on 63.6 percent shooting and Robert Johnson is scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds. Indiana would be in terrific shape in the Big Ten if Yogi Ferrell is really going to be the team’s third-leading scorer, as he’s easily one of the better players in the entire country. The Indiana Hoosiers aren’t expected to do much this season due to so many losses in the offseason but a team coached by Tom Crean should never be counted out. Emmitt Holt, Stanford Robinson and Troy Williams are all eligible to return after serving their suspensions.
The Mustangs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss. The Hoosiers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS loss.
SMU has Indiana beat as far as overall talent is concerned and I think the game against Gonzaga has helped the Mustangs settle down a bit and get them ready for other road games. While winning in Indiana won't be easy, I think SMU pulls it off and gets that early statement win.
