The Cornell Big Red look to even their record whem they squareoff with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The question for the Cornell Big Red heading in to their bout with South Carolina was whether the Ivy could compete with the SEC and after a 69-45 defeat the answer was no on this night. The Big Red knew they had to shoot the ball reasonably well and not fall behind that's exactly what happened with 27% shooting leading to a 14 point deficit heading in to the locker room. Cornell held their own defensively by limiting the Gamecocks to 38% from the floor but the bottom line is 27% shooting and 17 giveways are not winning numbers. JoJo Fallas led the offense with elevven points with Galal Cancer tossing in ten while Shonn Miller chipped in with nine points.
The Penn State Nittany Lions saw their opportunity of a 3-0 start to the season go by the wayside in a 2 OT 106-97 defeat at the hands of Charlotte. The Nittany Lions struggled at the defensive end with the 49ers hitting shots at a solid 49%. On the flip side their 39% marksmanship was decisive because they forged 17 more shots with better offensive rebounding and a few more turnovers giving them a chance at stealing a game they didn't play well in and still foced two overtimes. DJ Newbill kept his team in the game with a contest high 35 points and eight pulls on 14-33 shooting while playing 50 minutes. Brandon Taylor tossed in 19 points and grabbed nine boards with the duo of Shep Garner and Geno Thorpe contributing 14 points apiece.
Penn State are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Ivy League. For Cornell the under is 6-2 in Cornell's last 8 non-conference games. Cornell is predicted to finish at or near the bottom of the Ivy and this conference is one of the lower ranked leagues in the game so people will tend to look past the Big Red. Penn State is in the rugged Big Ten which is one of the top power conferences in the country. The Nittany Lions won't win or challenge for the conference crown but I believe they will be too big and strong in this match up...
