The North Dakota Sioux and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits play Friday night at the Frost Arena.
The North Dakota Sioux has split its first two games with a loss to Northern Iowa and a victory over Mayville State. On the season, North Dakota is averaging 52 points on 35.6 percent shooting and allowing 64 points on 44.7 percent shooting. Jaron Nash leads North Dakota with 13.5 points on 41.7 percent shooting and Quinton Hooker is averaging 11 points and four assists. In his first season with the program, Josiah Coleman has gotten off to to a fast start with nine points, five rebounds and three steals per game. Other than those three players, however, North Dakota has really struggled early on both sides of the ball, even on the free throw line where the team is shooting just 62.5 percent. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are off to a 0-2 start with losses to Buffalo and Idaho. On the season, South Dakota State is averaging 72 points on 43.2 percent shooting and is allowing 75.5 points on 37.8 percent shooting. Jake Bittle leads South Dakota State with 17 points on 70 percent shooting and Cody Larson is averaging 14.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. Zach Horstman is shooting 42.9 percent from downtown and Deondre Parks has really given the Jackrabbits a boost in his first season with the program. Despite losses in both games, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits have played much better than expected and have lost both games by a combined seven points. As long as South Dakota State can keep up the energy, the Jackrabbits will start winning games in no time.
