The Cal Golden Bears and the Texas Longhorns face off on Friday in Madison Square Garden in he Championship Game of he 2K Sports Classic.
The California Golden Bears entered Thursday’s game against Syracuse as underdogs but they didn’t pay any attention to the odds pounding the Orange for the win. Cal lit it up shooting 46.4 percent from the floor including 42.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 76.5 percent from the free throw line while holding Syracuse to just 35.9 percent shooting. Jordan Mathews had 22 points to lead Cal, Jabari Bird had 16 points, David Kravish had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Tyrone Wallace had 10 points and six rebounds. Cal looks to be loaded but they face their stiffest test in this one.
The Texas Longhorns were slow out of the gate on Thursday but they bounced back after trailing at the half and beat Iowa by 14. Texas shot 45.8 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while holding Iowa to 29.6 percent shooting. Jonathan Holmes led the way with 19 points and five rebounds, Isaiah Taylor had 15 points, and Javan Felix had 11 points. Texas may not e able to come back from another sluggish start so they will need to get it going early.
Cal is 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six games, 1-4 against the spread against the Big 12, and 6-0-1 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games. Texas is 2-7 against the spread against the Big 12, 2-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
There should be plenty of points here so my free pick is the over. My stroger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as the App.
