The Ball State Cardinals and IUPUI Jaguars play Saturday afternoon at the IUPUI Gymnasium.
The Ball State Cardinals have split their first two games with a win over IU-Kokomo and a loss to Utah. On the season, Ball State is averaging 72 points on 45.5 percent shooting and is allowing 90 points on 59.2 percent shooting. Sean Sellers leads Ball State with 22 points on 66.7 percent shooting and Jeremie Tyler is averaging 17.5 points and 3.5 assists. Zavier Turner is the third Ball State player who is averaging double-digit points and Matt Kamieniecki is averaging four rebounds. The Ball State Cardinals were expected to be one of the worst teams in the MAC after a brutal season last year under James Whitford. However, Ball State is shooting 50 percent from deep and 72.2 percent from the free throw line, two things that will help the Cards improve.

The IUPUI Jaguars are coming off their first win of the season with a victory over Milwaukee and plays their second home game. On the season, IUPUI is averaging 64.3 points on 41.3 percent shooting and allows 74.7 points on 44 percent shooting. Marcellus Barksdale leads IUPUI with nine points while D.J. McCall is scoring 8.7 points and grabbing 4.3 rebounds. P.J. Boutte leads the Jaguars with 5.7 assists and Leo Svete is shooting 46.2 percent from three. The IUPUI Jaguars don’t have a single player averaging double-digit points and are averaging 17 turnovers per game. IUPUI also isn’t great at rebounding or defense, which shows that it’s going to be another long season for the Jaguars as expected.
The Cardinals are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. The Jaguars are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Mid-American and 15-36 ATS in their last 51 home games.
Neither of these teams are great when it comes to talent. However, I can't lay chalk with a team that has not a single person who can takeover a game. Ball State to me is a better team here and I'll take the free bucket with the Cards on the road.
