The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Rhode Island Rams play Saturday night at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers picked up where they left off last season with wins over Northern Kentucky and Central Arkansas. On the season, Nebraska is averaging 81 points on 50.5 percent shooting and is allowing 58.5 points on 34.5 percent shooting. Terran Petteway leads Nebraska with 24 points on 46.9 percent shooting and Shavon Shields is averaging 17 points and 7.5 rebounds. Tai Webster and David Rivers are also scoring in the double digits while Walter Pitchford has been a high energy guy in limited minutes. While the competition clearly isn’t the best, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have what it takes to once again make a run in the Big Ten this season. Getting a true win on the road here would be big for Nebraska moving forward.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rhode Island Rams are undefeated with wins over Pace and UMass Lowell. On the season, Rhode Island is averaging 72 points on 63.8 percent shooting and is allowing 56 points on 37.2 percent shooting. Hassan Martin leads Rhode Island with 19.5 points on 76.2 percent shooting and Gilvydas Biruta is scoring 11.5 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds. Jared Terrell and E.C. Matthews are two other Rams averaging double-digit points while T.J. Buchanan is dishing out three assists in limited playing time. The Rhode Island Rams may not get a ton of credit for their play, but this is a solid team led by one of the better players in the Atlantic 10 in Matthews. The one thing Rhode Island must improve, however, is its poor 56.8 free throw percentage if it hopes to take another step forward.
The Cornhuskers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games overall. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
While I know the Rhode Island Rams are an above-average Atlantic 10 team, we're getting one of the better Big Ten squads at a small number. Not sure how anyone can pass up that value. Give me Nebraska to get a big road victory.
