USA TODAY Sports
This will be just the second game of the season for the UTEP Miners, as they beat Washington State, 65-52. In the victory, UTEP shot 34.9 percent from the field and grabbed 46 rebounds while the defense allowed 35.2 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers. Vince Hunter led UTEP with 14 points and 16 rebounds while Earvin Morris scored 13 points off the bench. C.J. Cooper had 11 points and five assists, and Julian Washburn was 2-12 from the field with seven rebounds. The UTEP Miners are one of a few teams that can win the top heavy C-USA, especially if they can continue to crash the boards at a high level and get elite production from Hunter all season. UTEP is going to be a team to watch this season in terms of value.
The Aggies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 36-17-4 ATS in their last 57 Saturday games. The Miners are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games and 35-16-2 ATS in their last 53 games overall. Aggies are 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Texas-El Paso and 7-18 ATS in the last 25 meetings overall.
UTEP has won majority of the games against New Mexico State ATS and has far more talent than the Aggies. I expect not much to change with this matchup.
