The Line: Massachusetts Minutemen -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Massachusetts Minutemen and Florida State Seminoles play Sunday afternoon at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Massachusetts Minutemen lost their first game of the season to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Saturday, 81-68. In the loss, UMass turned the ball over 18 times and allowed Notre Dame to shoot 58.5 percent from the field. That’s a big difference from a Massachusetts team that was allowing 42.6 percent shooting heading into the game. While the defense now has question marks, the Massachusetts Minutemen are led by an explosive offense that features Derrick Gordon and Cady Lalanne. Those two players lead the way for UMass and have scored a combined 69 points in their last two games. Massachusetts is one of the more talented teams in the Atlantic 10 and can score with the best of them but the turnovers and taking plays off defensively has to stop if they expect to turn the corner.
USA TODAY Sports
The Florida State Seminoles have now lost two games in disappointing fashion to Northeastern and Providence. In the loss to Providence, Florida State shot just 39.1 percent from the field and turned the ball over 15 times while the defense allowed 53.7 percent from the field. Turnovers and sloppy play offensively haunted FSU last season and it’s no different early on, as the Noles have 27 turnovers in their last two games and three starters produced a combined two points in Saturday’s loss. Aaron Thomas has produced 40 points and 11 rebounds in his last two games and Montay Brandon has 29 points and 14 rebounds in his last two games. Like UMass, the Florida State Seminoles are going to have a hard time winning games if the sloppy play and mental lapses continue.
The Seminoles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Atlantic 10 and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games. The Minutemen are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 Sunday games.
