The Line: Penn State Nittany Lions -7 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Penn State Nittany Lions and the USC Trojans face off on Sunday in Charleston in college basketball tournament action.
The Penn State Nittany Lions lost their opening round game on Tuesday falling in overtime to Charlotte and then they bounced back on Friday beating Cornell by one point. Penn State is averaging 75.8 points and they are shooting 43.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 69.8 points and their opponents shoot 37.8 percent. D.J. Newbill is averaging 24 points and 6.0 rebounds to lead PSU. Shep Garner is averaging 12.5 points, Brandon Taylor is averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, and John Johnson is averaging 9.3 points. Penn State seems to play a lot of tight games.
USA TODAY Sports
The USC Trojans appear to be in for a rough season but after losing their tourney opener to Akron they bounced back beating Drexel by two. USC is averaging 64 points per game and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 69.8 points and their opposition shoots 37.8 percent. Jordan McLughlin leads Southern Cal averaging 133 points and 5.8 assists, Kati Reinhardt is averaging 10.8 points, and Darion Clark is averaging 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds. USC is just lacking size and that is something coaching or experience can’t fix.
Penn State is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 1-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. USC is 1-3-1 against the spread following a win, 0-7 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 5-12 against the spread against a team with a winning percentage above .600.
USC is one of the worst teams in the major conferences and I look for Penn State to cover.
