The UCLA Bruins and the Long Beach State 49ers face off on Sunday at Pawley Pavilion in college basketball action.
The UCLA Bruins are off to a 3-0 start to the season but they have played soft competition thus far. Steve Alford once again appears to have a solid team despite losing some of the stars from last year’s team. UCLA is averaging 101.3 points per game shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 74.3 points and their opponents shoot 43.4 percent. Bryce Alford is averaging 21 points and 10.7 assists to lead the Bruins. Norman Powell is averaging 20.3 points, Kevon Looney is averaging 16.3 points and 12.3 rebounds, Tony Parker is averaging 14 points and 8.0 rebounds, and Isaac Hamilton is averaging 13.3 points. UCLA once again appears to have plenty of options on the offensive end.

No one will ever accuse the Long Beach State 49ers of taking the easy road when it comes to scheduling and that is why when the season winds down they are normally one of the most battle tested teams in the nation. LBSU is coming off of an upset win against Kansas State and in addition they have played BYU and Xavier. Long Beach State is averaging 7.7 points per game and they are shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing their opposition to score 84 points per game and shoot 45.9 percent. Mike Caffey leads Long Beach State averaging 18 points per game. Tyler Lamb is averaging 11.5 points, David Samuels is averaging 10 points, and McKay LaSalle is averaging 8.5 points. LBSU will be looking for their second upset in a row.
UCLA is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games, 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 home games, and 5-2 against the spread against the Big West. Long Beach State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 12-4 against the spread in their last 16 road games, and 1-4 against the spread following a win.
This is a ton of points and with Long Beach State already battle tested I will take the 49ers.
