The BYU Cougars and San Diego State Aztecs play Monday night at the Lahaina Civic Center.
The BYU Cougars are unbeaten but will be put to the ultimate test in this matchup against San Diego State. On the season, BYU is averaging 93 points on 52.8 percent shooting and is allowing 76 points on 44.3 percent shooting. Tyler Haws leads BYU with 17.3 points on 47.1 percent shooting and Chase Fischer is averaging 15.3 points and three assists. Anson Winder is the third BYU player to average double-digit points and Nate Austin leads the team with 7.7 rebounds. Just like last season, the BYU Cougars can score with just about any team in the country but it all comes down to their defense and the ability to get stops. As long as BYU can improve its defensive effort, this team has great potential. Jordan Ellis is questionable for this game with a knee injury.

The San Diego State Aztecs are unbeaten and already have a top 25 win in a victory over Utah. On the season, San Diego State is averaging 61 points on 35.8 percent shooting and 44.7 points on 31.7 percent shooting. Dwayne Polee II leads SDSU with 10.7 points and three steals while J.J. O'Brien is averaging 10 points and 7.3 rebounds. Winston Shepard is shooting 36.8 percent from the field and Angelo Chol is grabbing 4.7 rebounds in limited playing time. The San Diego State Aztecs haven’t changed their playing style one bit, as they live and die with a defense that’s producing 12 steals and six blocks. And while SDSU hasn’t allowed 70 points in 21 straight regular season games, it’s the lack of offense and go-to scorer that could hurt the Aztecs.
The Cougars are 19-41 ATS in their last 60 neutral site games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Aztecs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 neutral site games and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Cougars are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
I love the San Diego State Aztecs style of play and they're a nightmare to play against. However, one way to beat the Aztecs is to have guys who can shoot a high percentage from the outside. That's what BYU does best. Give me the Cougars and the points, as they have a decent shot to win outright.
