The Arkansas Razorbacks and SMU Mustangs play Tuesday night at the Moody Coliseum.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are off to a 3-0 start and can really turn heads with a victory here. On the season, Arkansas is averaging 93 points on 52.3 percent shooting and allowing 67.7 points on 39.9 percent shooting. Bobby Portis leads Arkansas with 16 points and 5.7 rebounds while Anthlon Bell is averaging 12.3 points on 65 percent shooting. Rashad Madden leads Arkansas with 5.7 assists and Michael Qualls is scoring 12.3 points per game. The Arkansas Razorbacks are shooting 52.1 percent from downtown and are second in the country with 23 assists per game. Due to the experience an explosiveness at both ends of the floor, Arkansas was my pick to win the SEC and with the way the Razorbacks are playing right now, that prediction may not be too crazy.
USA TODAY Sports
The SMU Mustangs are off to a rocky 2-2 start and clearly missing Marcus Kennedy. On the season, SMU is averaging 73.5 points on 48.9 percent shooting and is allowing 67 points on 38.9 percent shooting. Ben Moore leads SMU with 13.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while Nic Moore is averaging 12.8 points and 5.5 assists. Keith Frazier is shooting 57.7 percent from the field and Yanick Moreira is the fourth SMU player to average double-digit points. The SMU Mustangs are shooting a high percentage from the floor and even making 78.3 percent from the free throw line. The issue with SMU are the 13 turnovers per game and the fact its missing its top big man in Kennaday. Now that the two tough road games are out of the way, SMU should start rolling off the victories.
The Razorbacks are 15-36 ATS in their last 51 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Mustangs are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Again, I've been very high on this Arkansas team from the beginning, and this is a team that swept the Kentucky Wildcats last season. Playing in SMU won't be a big deal for this Razorbacks squad. Give me the points but don't be surprised if Arkansas wins outright. This is a good, good team.
