The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers take the floor with the St Joseph's Hawks in a NIT Season Tip-Off.
Western Kentucky left the Sun Belt as a contender and headed to the CUSA where the competition would be a bit stiffer. The conference schedule has yet to start and the competition has been too stiff with the Hilltoppers sitting at 1-3 after a 71-61 loss at Stony Brook. The offense has sputtered in three straight defeats with 38% shooting doing the damage. The Seawolves hit at just 40% but sank 13 more free throws to get the win. TJ Price led a trio of double digit scorers with 19 points with five pulls with a 3-4 effort on threes followed by a 12 point performance from George Fant. Chris Harrison-Docks and Aleksejs Rostov combined for 19 points and eight boards but Stony Brook hit enough free throws to win.

The St Joseph's Hawks have won consecutive contests to improve to 3-2 after a 74-70 overtime victory over LIU Brooklyn. The Hawks haven't played the most difficult schedule but the games have been close which is probably a factor of losing quite a bit of production from a year ago. This game was just about dead even in the boxscore with both squads sinking shots at 43% with the Hawks sinking a few more free throws to muster the win. DeAndre Bembry tossed in a game high 17 points while hauling in eleven rebounds and handing out five assists. Aaron Brown followed with 15 points and seven boards while Chris Wilson and James Demery scored 13 and eleven points with a combined 12 pulls.
Western Kentucky are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games overall. For St. Joseph's the under is 13-3 in JOES last 16 Thu. games while the Hawks are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Thu. games while the over is 6-2 in JOES last 8 overall. I have been surprised that a veteran Hilltoppers squad has struggled so much in the early going and they must right the ship before conference play begins or they are in big trouble. On the flip side I sort of expected some close games for the Hawks because of all the talent that departed. Right now I'll back the veteran laden Hilltoppers but I'm on the fence...
