The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Baylor Bears face off on Friday in Las Vegas in college basketball tournament action.
The Illinois Fighting Illini had no troubles with Indiana State on Thursday to raise their record to 5-0 and advance to this game. Illinois took a 21-point halftime lead and extended it by another five points in the second half to win by 26. The Illini shot 42.4 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the three-point arc while hitting 82.1 percent of their free throws. Rayvonte Rice led Illinois with 21 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Malcolm Hill had 17 points and eight rebounds, Nnanna Egwu had 10 points and five rebounds, Aaron Cosby had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Kendrick Nunn had 10 points. Illinois also won the rebound battle 43-30. The Illini have been fast starters to the season for the past several years.

The Baylor Bears also moved to 5-0 for the season as they blasted Memphis on Thursday. Baylor trailed by three at the half and then outscored the Tigers by 37 points in the second half. Baylor shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 4 percent from beyond the three-point arc and hey hit 60 percent of their free throws. Taurean Price had 20 points to lead Baylor, Royce O’Neal had 16 points, Rico Gathers had eight points and 11 rebounds, and Al Freeman had eight points. Baylor outrebounded Memphis 39-27. Baylor has been a force in college hoops in recent year sand this year appears to be no different.
Illinois is 6-0 against the spread following a win, 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games, and 12-3-1 against the spread in their last 16 neutral site games. Baylor is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 5-2 against the spread following a win, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games.
This should be a good game but I see Baylor as the deeper team and that should be the difference for them.
