The Kansas Jayhawks had no problem with Rhode Island on Thursday pounding the Rams to advance to this game. Kansas jumped out to an 18-point first half lead and held on from there for the easy win. KU shot 47.2 percent from the floor, 47.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and they converted on 72 percent of their free throw chances. Perry Ellis led the Jayhawks scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds. Frank mason had 12 points and five assists, Wayne Selden Jr. had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Devonte Graham had 10 points in the win. Kansas hasn’t always looked impressive this season but they did on Thursday.
The Tennessee Volunteers trailed Santa Clara by three points at the half on Thursday but they came on in the second half to win by seven and advance to this game. Tennessee shot 45.1 percent from the floor but just 18.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and they converted on 69.6 percent of their free throws. Armani Moore had 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Vols. Josh Richardson had 18 points, Jabari McGhee had eight points and nine rebounds, and Kevin Hunter and Dominic Woodson each had five points. Tennessee won the rebounding battle 31-23.
Kansas is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, and 1-6 against the spread following a win. Tennessee is 3-0-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-0-2 against the spread following a win, and 1-4 against the spread against the Big 12.
This looks like a big number as Kansas hasn't been blowing anybody out and Tennessee is traditionally scrappy and comes up big against the tougher teams even if they don't win outright.
