The James Madison Dukes will travel to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Buckeye Classic this Friday night.
James Madison have won 4 straight since their opening season loss at Virginia, and recently handled the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 79-72 this past Wednesday night. Leading the way for the Dukes was Paulius Satkus who had a career high 21 points (5-5 FG, 10-11 FTM-A) and 8 rebounds and Jackson Kent who had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Head Coach Matt Brady has done a nice job with this squad, especially as the Dukes have been without the services of their leading scorer and pre-season CAA first-team member in Andre Nation due to a suspension. With Nation currently not playing, Jackson Kent (15.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.8 apg), Ron Curry (11.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.0 apg), and Yohanny Dalembert (10.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.2 bpg) have all done nice job for Coach Brady. For the Dukes success to continue, they will need to find some answers on the defensive end as they are currently allowing 70.6 ppg (ranked 255th) and grabbing just 31.2 rpg (ranked 299th).

The 16th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes have enjoyed the comfort of their home court as they are a perfect 4-0 (all at home) as they recently defeated the Campbell Camels 91-64 this past Wednesday night. The Buckeyes had all the members of their starting five score double digits and was led by D’Angelo Russell who had 22 points on 9-13 shooting and 7 assists. So far in the young season, the Buckeyes have been arguably the best offensive team in the country as they lead the country in field goal percentage at 60.8%, are ranked 4th in assists per game at 21.0, and ranked 6th in points per game at 90.8. Along with D’Angelo Russell who is averaging 19.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 5.5 apg, Head Coach Thad Matta has a lot of talent on this team in Shannon Scott (9.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 11.5 apg, 2.3 spg), Marc Loving (13.0 ppg), and Sam Thompson (11.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.3 apg). Although the Buckeyes have been nearly perfect so far early in the season, they’ll need to improve their rebounding once they start facing tougher competition as currently they only rank 215th in the country at 34.8 rebounds per game.
The Dukes are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Buckeyes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the CAA however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Ohio State is playing as well as any team in the country early in the season and although James Madison has played well, they are no were near in the same league as the Buckeyes. Although I think that James Madison might stick around with the Buckeyes in the beginning of this one, I think the Buckeyes will run away with this one in the second half and cover this large spread. Take the Buckeyes in this one.
