The VCU Rams and Old Dominion Monarchs play Saturday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The VCU Rams are off to a 4-1 start and are looking for their first true road win of the season. On the year, VCU is averaging 81.6 points on 46.1 percent shooting and is allowing 70.6 points on 43.6 percent shooting. Melvin Johnson leads VCU with 17.4 points on 52.5 percent shooting and Treveon Graham is averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds. Briante Weber leads VCU with six assists per game and Jordan Burgess is shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The VCU Rams continue to make their mark on the defensive side of the ball, forcing 17.4 turnovers per game and averaging 10 steals. But VCU is a lot better offensively with three players averaging double-digit points and shooting 35.5 percent from downtown. Once again, VCU isn’t a team most want to face.

The Old Dominion Monarchs have also won four of their first five games and could emerge as a C-USA contender with a win here. On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 62.4 points on 41.2 percent shooting and is allowing 56.8 points on 38.5 percent shooting. Trey Freeman leads the Monarchs with 19.8 points on 47.9 percent shooting and Richard Ross is averaging 11 points. Jonathan Arledge is grabbing 6.6 rebounds and Ambrose Mosley is shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Old Dominion Monarchs aren’t the best offensive team in the world but they’re forcing 13 turnovers and holding teams under the national average shooting percentage by four percent. Old Dominion will test VCU on the defensive side of the ball and look to frustrate the Rams.
The Rams are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games. The Monarchs are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 home games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Saturday games. The Rams are 21-9 ATS in the last 30 meetings.
VCU and the small chalk? Take advantage of it while you can. You won't get this very often.
