The Line: Marquette Golden Eagles +3 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Tennessee Volunteers and Marquette Golden Eagles play Sunday at the HP Field House.
The Tennessee Volunteers look to bounce back from their loss to Kansas and improve their defense. On the season, Tennessee is averaging 67.5 points on 43.6 percent shooting and is allowing 70.5 points on 41.8 percent shooting. Josh Richardson leads Tennessee with 17.5 points and five rebounds while Armani Moore is averaging 10.5 points on 40 percent shooting. Kevin Punter is the third Vols player to average double-digit points and Detrick Mostella is shooting 36.8 percent from deep. The Tennessee Volunteers are getting enough offensive production to be competitive but their defense has allowed 80-plus points in the two games against ranked opponents. Tennessee is also shooting just 61.5 percent from the free throw line, a number that has to improve quickly.
USA TODAY Sports
The Marquette Golden Eagles have won two of their last three games but also need help defensively. On the season, Marquette is averaging 72.2 points on 44.1 percent shooting and is allowing 73.3 points on 51 percent shooting. Matt Carlino leads Marquette with 14.3 points and four assists while Juan Anderson is averaging 14 points and six rebounds. Duane Wilson is the third Marquette player to average double-digit points and Steve Taylor Jr. is shooting 44.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Marquette Golden Eagles is a solid offensive team that’s averaging close to 15 assists per game but has allowed 70 or more points in four of their last five games. Marquette is also averaging just 27.7 rebounds per game. Marquette is usually a physical defensive team but that doesn’t seem to be the case this season.
The Volunteers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. loss and 0-3-2 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Golden Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Southeastern and 8-18-1 ATS in their last 27 games overall.
This line opned up as a pick em and the public has pounded the Vols early. These teams are alike in a lot of ways, especially with the poor play defensively. I'll go ahead and take the Golden Eagles and the free points based on the value.
