The Indiana State Sycamores took to cool off the red hot Butler Bulldogs when they visit on Wednesday.
The Butler Bulldogs have produced at both ends of the floor through seven games to build an impressive 6-1 record which includes a win over #5 North Carolina. The Bulldogs bounced back from their lone loss to Oklahoma with a 64-58 decision over always dangerous Georgetown on Friday night. Butler relied on a defense that allowed 41.5% shooting and forced 14 turnovers while countering with 44% from the field and a 16-10 advantage at the charity stripe to secure the victory. The Bulldogs received a team high 16 points from Kellen Dunham on 5-10 from the floor with Alex Barlow and Kelan Martin tossing ing eleven and ten points respectively while Roosevelt Jones and Andrew Chrabascz combined for another 16 points.
Some people have Indiana State cracking the top four in the Missouri Valley while others say this team will be on the outside looking in at the top of the conference but it's difficult to say who is right after a 3-3 start. I'm leaning to the latter after the Sycamores dropped badck to back contests after a 72-62 defeat to a Memphis squad that is predicted to have an off year. ISU put themselves in an early hole as they trailed by 18 after 20 minutes with a decent rally still falling well short. The story of this game was the Sycamores 32.7% marksmanship which couldn't compete with the Tigers 26% as it translated in to eight more field goals. Brenton Scott led the Sycamores with 12 points on 4-9 from the field while Khristian Smith tossed in ten points but was just 2-13 in the shooting department. Devonte Brown chipped in with nine points with nine players scoring.
The Bulldogs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win. Butler are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games while going 7-2 ATS in their last 9 Wednesday games. For Indiana State the Sycamores are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss and are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 home games. The Sycamores are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss while going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. I hate giving up points on the road but if the good Butler squad shows up I'll back them...
