The Yanitelli Center and the Saint Peter's Peacocks welcome the Canisius Golden Griffins in MAAC action.
The Canisius Golden Griffins are picked to finish towards the bottom of the MAAC and most of these predictions are based on the loss of leading scorer Billy Baron and his 24 points. Without Baron the Golden Griffins aren't even breaking 60 points and shooting less then 34%. The offensive woes continued in a 72-57 loss to visiting Buffalo with the Bulls taking a 15 point lead in to the break behind 48% shooting. The Golden Griffins only connected at 32% which explains the final score. The Golden Griffins were led in the scoring column with 14 points and six pulls by Zach Lewis with Phil Valenti adding eleven points while Josiah Heath chipped in with eight points and six yanks.
The Saint Peter's Peacocks are supposed to be on the outside looking in at the top half of the MAAC. Scoring has been an issue although the slowdown tactics and defense have generally kept the Peacocks competitive although a 2-5 record tells us all we need to know. The Peacocks saw their shot at a three game winning streak end in a 60-58 defeat at Norfolk State on Saturday. Both teams connected at 45% with the Peacocks going an impressive 12-22 from the perimeter with the Spartans countering with eight more free throws. As usual Marvin Dominique paced the Saint Peter's attack with 17 points on 7-10 shooting but he fouled out in 31 minutes while Tyler Gaskins and Travis Hester tossed in 12 points apiece but no other player scored more then five points.
The Golden Griffins are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic and are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 road games. Canisius are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record while going 10-2 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games. For Saint Peter's the Peacocks are 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 games following a S.U. loss and are 17-41-1 ATS in their last 59 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Saint Peter's are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record while going 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall. This one has ugly written all over it and Canisius is as ugly as it gets when shooting the ball yet the points are where I'm going...
