The TCU Horned Frogs will take on the Ole Miss Rebels at the C. M. Tad Smith Coliseum this Thursday night.
The TCU Horned Frogs improved to an impressive and surprising 7-0 record on the season after defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 61-52 to win the Corpus Christi Coastal Class this past Saturday. The Horned Frogs did an impressive job on the defensive end holding the Bulldogs to just 36.5% shooting which led to the Bulldogs lowest scoring output of the season. Leading the way for TCU was Chris Washburn who had 12 points and 8 rebounds, even though he did struggle at the free-throw line going 4-11. The Horned Frogs got some key contributions from their bench in Kenrich Williams (10 pts, 11 reb) and Amric Fields (10 pts on 5-8 shooting). Leading the way for TCU on the season has been Kyan Anderson (12.7 ppg & 3.7 apg), Kenrich Williams (8.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg), and UTEP transfer, Chris Washburn (8.7 rpg, 5.9 rpg). The Horned Frogs have a well balanced team as they don’t anyone on the team that is averaging more than 25 minutes per game. TCU and Head Coach Trent Johnson has his team playing well on both ends of the floor as currently the Horned Frogs are averaging 76.6 ppg (ranked 56th) while holding their opponents to 54.7 ppg (ranked 17th). TCU is also doing a good job on the boards as they rank 31st in the country in Rebound Margin at 8.9.
USA TODAY Sports
Ole Miss loss a shocker in their season opener to Charleston Southern, however, have won five straight games since including a 66-54 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats to win the Emerald Coast Classic this past Saturday. Leading the way for the Rebels was Stefan Moody who had a monster game with 26 points and 3 rebounds. Old Miss got outrebound by Cincinnati 43-31, but did a great job on the defensive end as they held the Bearcats to 30.4% from the field and just 10.5% (2-19 3PM-A) from long range. On the season, the Rebels have been led by star guard Jarvis Summers (14.7 ppg, 3.7 apg), Stefan Moody (13.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.0 spg), and Ladarius White (12.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.5 apg). Prior to their victory against Cincinnati, Ole Miss picked up a 75-68 victory against #23 ranked Creighton in which they shot 90.5% (19-21) from the free-throw line. On the season, Old Miss has been doing a great job on the defensive end as they are holding opponents to 34.1% from field (ranked 8th) and pulling down an 27.8 defensive rpg (ranked 37th).
The Horned Frogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Rebels are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, however, just 3-8-2 ATS in their last 13 games following a ATS win.
TCU could be one of the most surprising teams in the nation early in the season as they were returning 4 starters from a team that went 0-18 in Big 12 conference play last year. It’s great to see to the balance attack and the effort that the Horned Frogs are putting in on both ends of the floor, however, TCU will be running into their toughest competition of the young season in Old Miss. Old Miss is a tough place to play and I think that Jarvis Summers and Stefan Moody will pull away from the Horned Frogs in the second half and cover this spread. Take Old Miss in this one.
