Neighborhood rivals the Pittsburgh Panthers battle the Duquesne Dukes in Friday night action.
The Duquesne Dukes are off to a solid 3-1 start which is the good news. The bad news is the schedule has not been real tough with the lone loss coming to New Jersey Tech. The Dukes are still scoring the basketball thus far despite graduating leading scorer and rebounder Ovie Soko. The Dukes are looking to build on an 81-63 rout of visiting Howard where they took an eleven point lead at the half and never looked back. The key was 52% shooting and ten more field goals versus the 37% shooting Bison. LG Gill led the scoring parade with 17 points and eight boards followed by 13 point and 12 point efforts from TySean Powell and Micah Mason. Jordan Stevens and Eric James combined for 20 points as there was no shortage of scoring.

The Pitt Panthers and winning seemed to be a natural combination for quite awhile but winning might be not as easy with the loss of some big contributors. The Panthers have played a decent schedule but losing to Hawaii and having struggles putting away Chaminade have me wondering what we'll see going forward. Pitt is coming off an 81-69 defeat at the hands of Indiana as a 2.5 point dog in a game where the Hoosiers shot a light's out 54%. That was game over with Pittsburgh hitting at 36% which negated eleven more looks at the basket. Chris Jones paced the offense with 18 points and six pulls but was only 6-17 from the floor. Josh Newkirk hit 7-13 for 16 points and posted eight assists followed by Michael Young with 13 points. The key might have been shot selection with the Panthers going 7-26 from the perimeter.
The Dukes are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Duquesne are 9-21-2 ATS in their last 32 games following a S.U. win while going are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss and are 4-16-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss. Pitt are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games while going are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. I feel like I'm always swimming upstream in this match up but I'll just with the better team...
