The Virginia Cavaliers and VCU Rams play Saturday at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
The Virginia Cavaliers are undefeated and will play their third true road game. On the season, Virginia is averaging 68 points on 46.8 percent shooting and is allowing 46.2 points on 31.5 percent shooting. Justin Anderson leads Virginia with 15.1 points on 54.4 percent shooting and Anthony Gill is averaging 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds. Anderson is questionable with an ankle injury. Malcolm Brogdon is the third player to average double-digit points and Mike Tobey is grabbing seven rebounds per game. The Virginia Cavaliers are a lot like the team they were last season, relying heavily on defense and rebounding, as they’re averaging nearly 41 rebounds per game and are holding teams to 28.7 percent shooting from deep. There aren’t many weaknesses with this Virginia team other than the fact only five players average five or more points.
USA TODAY Sports
The VCU Rams have split their last four games and could use a marquee win to get back on track. On the season, VCU is averaging 77.3 points on 43.3 percent shooting and is allowing 69.7 points on 44.8 percent shooting. Treveon Graham leads VCU with 17.4 points and 6.3 rebounds while Melvin Johnson is averaging 17.1 points on 46.1 percent shooting. Briante Weber is averaging 5.2 assists per game and Jordan Burgess is shooting 53.8 percent from the field. The VCU Rams continue to pressure hard and are forcing more than 17 turnovers per game, but they’re also allowing teams to shoot 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. VCU can also improve its free throw shooting of 63 percent. This game will give us a better idea of the VCU Rams.
The Cavaliers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 road games and 22-6-2 ATS in their last 30 games overall. The Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games.
Give me VCU at home in a pick em game.
