The Wichita State Shockers look to avoid consecutive defeats when the St Louis Billikens visit Saturday.
The St Louis Billikens lost a ton of production from last season so most experts have predicted a huge dropoff for this team. They are still waiting as the Billikens have fashioned a 5-2 record although their SOS has been called in to question. SLU has won consecutive victories after an 80-48 rout of sub division Rockhurst behind sparkling play at both ends of the floor with the defense holding the Hawks to to 37% shooting and 22 turnovers. On the flip side the Billikens it at 49% and totaled 16 more free throws. Miles Reynolds led four double digit scorers with 14 points with Milik Yarbrough with 12 points, seven pulls and five helpers. Achraf Yacoubou tossed in eleven points and hauled in ten rebounds while Reggie Abeko chipped in with ten points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Wichita State Shockers went undefeated during the regular season a year ago before suffering a 69-68, overtime loss at Utah Wednesday night to fall to 4-1. The Utes deserved to win with very solid 47% shooting and a 12-23 mark at the foul line telling me this shouldn't have gone to the extra session. The Shockers had a rare off night shooting the basketball at 38% with 12 more looks at the basket keeping this game within reach. Eleven bombs didn't hurt but just ten points outside the starting five did. Ron Baker led the Shockers with 15 points and six yanks on 6-13 with Tekele Cotton tossing in 14 points. Fred VanFleet followed with 13 points in 41 minutes on just 5-19 while Darius Carter added ten points before fouling out in 17 points.
The Billikens are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 while going are 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. St Louis are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points. The Shockers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Wichita State are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Atlantic 10. St Louis has taken a step back from where they have been the past few years. I'll take the Shockers coming off their first loss in forever...
