The Ole Miss Rebels will travel to Matthew Knight Arena to take on the Oregon Ducks this Sunday afternoon.
The Ole Miss Rebels dropped to 5-2 on the season after falling to the TCU Horned Frogs at home, 66-54 this past Thursday. The Horned Frogs held the Rebels to just 29.8% shooting from the field and dominated Ole Miss on the boards, outrebounding the Rebels 43-33. The Rebels three leading scorers, Jarvis Summers, Stefan Moody, and Ladarius White went a combined 8 for 34 from the field. Ole Miss has the talent to beat anyone in the country if their playing well, however, Coach Andy Kennedy will need to work on his team’s consistency as they’ve dropped a few matches at home this year (Charleston Southern & TCU) when they’ve been heavy favorites. Ole Miss has one of the best players in the SEC in Jarvis Summers, who some have tapped as the pre-season SEC player of the year. Jarvis Summers has been leading Ole Miss with an average of 13.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.4 apg and 1.6 spg. Defensively, Ole Miss has been holding their opponents to 61.4 ppg (ranked 94th) on just 34.9$ shooting (ranked 13th). The Rebels are one of the best teams in the country at the free-throw line as they are currently shooting 78.2% which ranks 4th in the country.

The Oregon Ducks improved to 5-2 on the season with a 94-63 victory over the Concordia OR Cavaliers this past Wednesday. The Oregon Ducks struggled from long-range only shooting 19.2% from beyond the arc, however, they shot 52.5% from the field and out-rebounded the Cavaliers by an astonishing 60-30 margin. Leading the way for the Ducks on the season has been Joseph Young who is averaging 20.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg, and 5.1 apg. Joseph Young ranks 16th in the country an individual points per game with his 20.9 average and has also been getting it done at the free-throw line as he is currently shooting 97.3% which ranks 6th in the country. Offensively, the Ducks are currently averaging 81.3 ppg (ranked 20th) on 45.9% shooting (ranked 99th). The Ducks have been controlling the boards as they are pulling down an average of 45.7 rpg which ranked 3rd in the country. The Ducks only loses come against two ranked teams in VCU and Michigan. For Oregon to start winning against the ranked teams, they’ll need to do a better job protecting the ball as currently, they are averaging 13.6 turnovers per game (ranked 182nd).
The Rebels are 12-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a double-digit loss at home, however, just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Ducks are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 home games and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games.
This will be a fun match-up to watch as it will feature two of the better players in the country in Jarvis Summers of Ole Miss and Joseph Young of Oregon. Oregon is a talented offensive team, however, they did struggle against some of the higher level of competition they’ve played this year. I don’t see Ole Miss having the same kind of difficulties on the offensive end as they did against TCU and for the fact that they’ve proven that they can play on the road with their win at Creighton, I’m going roll with the Rebels in this one.
