The Yale Bulldogs face a tall task in the Florida Gators in Monday night college basketball action.
The Yale Bulldogs are not a household name in the world of college basketball but they are enjoying one of their best ever starts. Decent scoring and above average defense have been the key to the Bulldogs strong play that has the Ivy Leaguers looking good at 8-2 after a 45-44 victory at Connecticut on Friday. This game was played in the half court with UConn hitting at 44% with Yale countering with 32.7% and 12 more shots thanks to the offensive rebounding which kept this close. Javier Duren tossed in a game high 15 points and grabbed six boards with Justin Sears adding 13 points and hauling in 15 rebounds. Matt Townsend scored eight points but no others scored more then three points.
The #24 Florida Gators are not accustomed to a losing record after seven games but they have a 3-4 record against some tough competition. The Gators have dropped consecutive contests to North Carolina and Kansas on Friday by a 71-65 count. UF appeared to be control with a 15 point lead over the Jayhawks at the half before KU went on a 47-26 over the final 20 minutes. Florida held a slight 44%-41.7% shooting edge with nine more looks but 24 fouls helped the Jayhawks to a decisive 27-7 advantage at the stripe. Devin Robinson led four double digit scorers with 13 points and five yanks followed by a 12 point, five pull effort from Chris Walker. Jon Horford and Michael Frazier II added ten points apiece and a combined nine rebounds.
