The South Dakota Coyotes face a big challenge in the Creighton Bluejays in Tuesday night action.
The South Dakota Coyotes lost their leading scorer from a year ago but they have still done a pretty good job of scoring the basketball. The issue for this team is slowing down opposing attacks which are averaging 75 points. The defense struggled in an 87-79 loss to visiting Youngstown State that snapped a three game winning streak. The Penguins burned the nets at 53% including 7-15 on threes and were 16-22 at the line. The Coyotes were connecting at 41% and hit 13-28 from down town but were simply outgunned. Tyler Larson was the Coyotes go to gut offensively with 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists with Brandon Bos tossing in 18 points and snagging five pulls while Casey Kasperbauer also scored 18 and grabbed seven more boards.
Despite the loss of star Doug McDermott to the NBA the Creighton Bluejays have fashioned themselves a 7-2 record behind solid play at both ends of the floor. The Bluejays bounced back from a disappointing defeat at Tulsa to upend Nebraska 65-55 on Sunday. The Cornhuskers were up one heading in to the locker room before Creighton turned up the scoring and defense to pull away in the final 20 minutes. The Bluejays sank shots at 47% and lit it up from the perimeter wit a 10-23 performance which was too much for the Cornhuskers and their 37.7% shooting to compete with. Austin Chatman did everything for Creighton with 19 points, seven rebounds and six helpers followed a 13 point effort from Isaiah Zierden. Ricky Kreklow and Will Artino rounded out the top contributors with 17 points and ten boards.
The Coyotes are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 while going 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games following a ATS loss. South Dakota are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss and are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Bluejays are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Creighton are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 while going 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Tuesday games. I have to see more of Creighton to have confidence in them because they were ghastly at Tulsa. If the Bluejays don't do well at home in this spot I think they are playing for an NIT berth...
