The Rhode Island Rams and Providence Friars play Wednesday at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
The Rhode Island Rams have split their last four games and will play their second true road contest. On the season, Rhode Island is averaging 66.7 points on 47.2 percent shooting and is allowing 57.5 points on 40.9 percent shooting. E.C. Matthews leads the Rams with 16.1 points and 2.6 assists while Hassan Martin is averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds. Jared Terrell is the third Rhode Island player to average double-digit points and Gilvydas Biruta is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. The Rhode Island Rams have one of the better scorers in the Atlantic 10 in Matthews, but they rely on their defense to win games. Rhode Island is holding teams to 31.8 percent shooting from deep and is forcing more than 15 turnovers per game. This is another statement game for the Rams.

The Providence Friars have lost three straight and have really taken a step back after a hot start. On the season, Providence is averaging 67.8 points on 45.1 percent shooting and is allowing 61.6 points on 43.2 percent shooting. LaDontae Henton leads the Friars with 19.3 points and 5.7 rebounds while Tyler Harris is averaging 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds. Kris Dunn leads the Friars with 6.8 assists per game and Carson Desrosiers is shooting 50 percent from the field. The Providence Friars offense has really taken a nosedive, scoring no more than 67 points in their last three games and shooting just 31.9 percent from deep on the season. Providence has to turn to its defense to win games, which is forcing 13.7 turnovers per game and holding teams to 29.6 percent shooting from deep.
The Rams are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Friars are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 home games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Rams are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
I'm going to take a chance here with Providence at home. While Rhode Island is an Atlantic 10 team to keep an eye on, the Friars are too talented to continue their losing stretch. Look for the Friars to get back to the basics and pick up a nice home win against a quality team.
