The DePaul Blue Demons will face off against the George Washington Colonials at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic this Thursday night.

The DePaul Blue Demons improved to 6-1 on the season with a convincing 83-61 victory against the Milwaukee Panthers this past Sunday. The Blue Demons used a solid offensive effort in the victory as DePaul shot 53.1% (26-49) from the field, 55.6% (55.6%) from three-point range, and an incredible 91.3% (21-23) from the free-throw line. All five starters for DePaul scored in double figures and were led by Tommy Hamilton IV who had 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Also contributing was Billy Garrett Jr. (18 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast) and Myke Henry (15 pts, 7 reb). On the season, Myke Henry has been leading the Blue Demons averaging 17.0 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Offensively, DePaul is averaging an impressive 79.7 ppg (ranked 26th) on 49.5% shooting (ranked 21st). Defensively, the Blue Demons would like to improve as currently they are allowing their opponents to score an average of 68.4 ppg (ranked 220th). Although the Blue Demons seem to have an inside presence as they are averaging 5.4 bpg (ranked 34th), they will look to continue to improve on the class as currently they are only grabbing a total of 31.4 rpg (ranked 300th).

The George Washington Colonials beat the Charlotte 49ers 78-70 this past Sunday to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Colonials shot 54.7% (29-53) from the field and held the 49ers to 39.4% (28-71) shooting. Leading the way for the Colonials was Patricio Garino who had 21 points on 10-14 shooting while also grabbing 4 rebounds. On the season George Washington has been led by Kethan Savage (13.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.9 apg), Patricio Garino (14.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.4 spg), and Joe McDonald (8.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 5.1 apg). George Washington doesn’t have a very deep team as four members of the starting five average over 30 minutes per game. The Colonials are a very solid team on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Colonials average 72.9 ppg (ranked 101st) on 46.1% shooting (ranked 86th). George Washington is very good on the defensive end as they are holding opponents to just 58.0 ppg (ranked 35th) on 38.9% shooting (ranked 78th).

The Blue Demons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Colonials are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games.

DePaul has had a really good start to the season, but I’m not buying into the Blue Demons as of yet. George Washington is a very solid team and although they rely heavily on their starting five, I think that they are one of the more underrated teams in the country as their only two loses have come against two great teams in Virginia and Seton Hall. DePaul does have a nice win at home against Stanford, however, I like the Colonials to cover the big line here. Take George Washington in this one.
