The Texas Southern Tigers look to beat the odds with the upset of the Florida Gators at the O'Connell Center.
The Texas Southern Tigers were the highest scoring team in the SWAC a year ago but with four starters graduating points have been difficult to come thus far. Defense has been as well with the Tigers getting outscored 74-61 on the way to a 1-6 record. The Tigers are coming in off of a 75-49 loss at Baylor that was never competitive with the Bears up 19 at the half behind 44% with 15 forced turnovers and 19 offensive rebounds. Texas Southern sank shots at 35% and were 4-21 from long range as they tried to stay in this one. Chris Thomas was the best scoring option with 15 points and six pulls on 6-14 from the field with Madarious Gibbs tossing in ten points and posting seven assists. With so many players gone from last season the Tigers appear to be looking for the best combination to put on the floor each night.

The Florida Gators began the season ranked which was no surprise but after losses to Georgetown, Kansas and North Carolina the Gators were unranked and probably not in a good mood. UF took their frustration out on Yale by an 85-47 count in a game that probably wasn't even that close. The Gators stormed to a 26 point lead after 20 minutes and never let up with the Bulldogs held to 34% from the floor and forced in to 15 turnovers. In contrast Florida was a white hot 64% from the field including 10-19 from beyond the arc with Michael Frazier II scoring 18 points and going 4-7 on threes. Dorian Finney-Smith added 14 points and five pulls while Chris Walker and Jacob Kurtz scored 13 and ten pooints respectively with six boards each. UF went with an eight man rotation and wanted to make a statement and did at the expense of Yale.
The Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. For Florida the Gators are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. Florida are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a SU win of more than 20 points while going 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. No question who wins this but the question is whether Florida wants to win by 20 or 30 because either can happen in my view...
