The UNLV Runnin' Rebels look to string together a few wins beginning with the South Dakota Coyotes.
The UNLV Rebels are off to a decent start at 5-2 with both ends of the floor contributing to the success. Having said that the Rebels don't have that edge to them that has made them a strong contender in the Mountain West although that could change once the season begins to mature. UNLV has won three of four with a 113-53 demolition of sub division St. Katherine Friday night. This was never in doubt with the lead growing to 27 points at the break with the Firebirds unable to keep up on the scoreboard on 29% shooting. The Rebels had no such issue on 62% accuracy with a +27 rebounding edge. Dwayne Morgan led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Christian Wood added 20 points, eleven boards and five assists with Jordan Cornish next in line with 18 points, eight pulls and six helpers. Goodluck Okonoboh, Cody Doolin and Dantley Walker each scored 12 points with nine players scoring overall.
USA TODAY Sports
The South Dakota Coyotes are one of a number of teams looking to make a name for themselves in the Summit League. The Coyotes score plenty of points and give them up as well but their 3-7 record tells us all we need to know although three defeats in overtime also speaks of some bad luck. The Coyotes hope to shake off a 91-88 overtime loss to Creighton as a 16 point underdog. The Coyotes trailed in the shooting department 43.5%-41% but mustered eight more looks and a few more baskets only to see the Bluejays win it at the stripe. Tyler Larson kept the Coyotes in the game with 25 points and ten rebounds with Tre Burnett following with 24 points and ten more boards. Brandon Bos was next in line with 23 points but this trio needed more help from the supporting cast.
The Runnin' Rebels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 while going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points. UNLV are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 non-conference games. The Coyotes are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game and are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. South Dakota are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. I have the feeling that UNLV will regret losing this game so I would hope to see their best effort...
